Who We Are

PCCI is based in the coastal town of Portland in South West Victoria, Australia. In 2024, we will continue our "purge the spurge" campaign on Nuns Beach, with a focus on freeing the knobby club rush plants. We are always looking for more like-minded volunteers, so please let us know if you are interested in helping out!

2024 Projects developed, or in the process of developing:

o   For PCCI members participating in PCCI activities, to be covered by LVI Landcare Insurance the event must be an organized event by PCCI. E.g. Member who remove sea spurge when walking on the beach will not be covered by insurance if it is not an organised event by PCCI such as a working bee, Centrelink volunteer program activity or arranged event

o   People should wear gloves and glasses and make sure they are wearing appropriate clothing to protect them, some people are more sensitive to the sap from sea spurge than other people

o   Continue with Nuns Beach Coastal plan in consultation with SEA Alliance

o   PCCI Working Bees 1st Saturday each month from 9.30am - 10.30am meet Nuns Beach BBQ Shelter.

o   Planning to test area for native grasses with SEA Alliance, Dr Ian Chivers, Glenelg Shire Council – with the plan to remove weedy prickly grass at Nuns Beach and replace with indigenous grasses that are safer and pleasant to walk on as well as ascetically more appealing

o   PCCI Covid 19 plan developed and submitted to council for working Bees, SUFM area spurge weeding project and upcoming projects. Regularly updated

o   Apply for relevant grants to complete projects at Nuns Beach that will restore and protect the beach and cliffs.
